Children in New Plymouth suburb of Marfell are riding high over a new all-wheels track at the local school, made possible with support by NPDC’s Let’s Go programme.
The school recently officially opened the new 1.8 metre concrete track which replaces the old, unsealed track.
“The project fits really well with the work we already do with schools across the district to get young people using more active and sustainable transport, such as riding bikes and scooters to school,” said NPDC’s Let’s Go lead, Nadine Ord.
“Not only is this a valuable asset for the wider Marfell community, more importantly it provides a space where children can learn safely while building their confidence and riding skills.”
Marfell Community School deputy principal Kealy Warren says the new track is already proving a hit with locals, providing a safe option for local tamariki to ride their bikes, scooters, and skates.
"We are so grateful for the Let’s Go programme which makes initiatives like this possible. This is an amazing facility for the children and the wider community, and it will be used daily to enhance fitness and wheels skills."
The school also received funding from Downer, which is part of the New Plymouth District Infrastructure Partnership, alongside NPDC.
