Let's Go: Your Way

We have received $17m in funding from Waka Kotahi NZTA to help make walking and cycling around our city easier and safer.

Thanks for your feedback. Here's what happens now:

  • As a result of public feedback in August, our Mayor and Councillors have asked staff to take another look at the South Road/ Devon Street West (SH45) project and get further public feedback on revised designs.
  • We are currently finalising those and plan to put those out for feedback from Friday 3 November to midday Monday 13 November 2023.
  • On 6 December, at a public meeting of the Council, the Mayor and Councillors will consider all the feedback to date, including feedback on the updated designs, before making a final decision on which, if any projects, will be put forward to Waka Kotahi for funding approval.
  • We have deadline of 7 December 2023 to get our preferred project, if any, to Waka Kotahi.
  • You can find out more about these updated designs and have your say from 3 November here.

We’re proposing three projects which focus on improving the safety of cyclists and walkers along some our busiest streets. In most cases, the upgrades are extensions of existing cycle lanes and pedestrian facilities.

About the Transport Choices funding

Waka Kotahi NZTA’s Transport Choices programme is a national programme funded by the Climate Emergency Relief Fund (CERF) that was formed out of the Government’s Emissions Reduction Plan. Funding supports projects that reduce our dependency on fossil fuels and cars by increasing the role of walking, cycling and public transport.
