Zero Waste

Recycling and rubbish

Here you’ll find everything you need to know about recycling and rubbish, from what to put into your bins at home and when they are collected, to how to reduce waste in the education, business, and construction sectors.

Suspension to glass kerbside collection service

Due to Covid affecting our contractor's staff, there will be no collection of the blue GLASS CRATE between 5 - 9th June. We apologise for the inconvenience.

If your blue crate is scheduled to be emptied during this time, you can either hold onto your glass until the next collection day or take your glass to the nearest transfer station or the Junction on Colson Road for free disposal.

Zero Waste 2040

Zero Waste 2040 is our aspirational goal to have no rubbish or waste going into our landfill by 2040. It is a big challenge that will require big changes and everyone working together.

We are well on the way, with the introduction of the food scraps collection service in 2019, diverting 150 tonnes of food waste from the landfill each month. The opening of the Junction Zero Waste Hub on Colson Road is also a huge step forward for our district’s Zero Waste goal, providing a centre for waste reduction, recycling, hands-on education and a fun reuse shop to buy upcycled goods.

We are all in this together, and together we can make a difference.
