Tukapa Street

The Tukapa Street area is an important part of New Plymouth with unique value. NPDC is reviewing residents’ safety and accessibility along and across this street between Wallace Place and Wallath Road.

We held drop-in sessions with residents, retailers, schools, and mobility advocates on 28/29 June 2022 at the Westown Primary School hall.

The feedback from the drop-in days and online engagement can be viewed on the graphic summary below.

Key themes from the feedback included the increasing congestion, commuter parking, poor cycling and pedestrian facilities, and the need for streetscape enhancements.

As a response to the engagement feedback, various actions were identified to meet the needs of different users along and across this corridor, which are identified on the map below.

The next step will be to develop detailed designs and costings for the actions so they can be prioritised in the next Long-Term Plan.

Further consultation will be undertaken with the Westown and Hurdon communities, Ngāti Te Whiti Hapū, schools and businesses as part of this process.
