Climate response

Climate change has altered the way we think about our future. We’re committed to an urgent climate response and building a sustainable district.

Our Climate Action Framework looks at how to reduce our emissions by changing the way we do things, like introducing electric vehicles or LED streetlights, as well as how we adapt to the effects of climate change such as preparing for rising sea levels and coastal erosion.

We’re working to embed climate change into our operations and plans, and are planning community engagement to find out how we can better support the district to become a Sustainable Lifestyle Capital.

Draft Emissions Reduction Plan

Feedback on our 10-Year Plan in 2021 showed that 60% of residents either supported our climate action work or wanted us to do more. We’ve drafted a district-wide Emissions Reduction Plan that aims for a greener, cleaner future for our kids. Public feedback on the draft plan closed in July 2022. The Mayor and Councillors will make a decision on the final draft early in 2023.
