Hairdressing

If you’re a hairdresser or barber, you no longer need a registration certificate from NPDC from 31 July 2025.

A recent Ministry for Regulation review found the 1980 Health (Hairdressers) Regulations outdated. From 31 July 2025, there will be greater flexibility around chair spacing, lighting levels, serving food or drink, and pets in salons.

New public health guidelines will replace the old regulations. In the meantime, you can learn more about the changes on the Ministry for Regulation website.

We are no longer charging registration fees and we'll update you as new guidance is released.
