Marae development grants

Marae in New Plymouth District can apply for funding for development grants for a range of purposes.

These relate to external and internal building works, health, safety and hygiene needs, new or accessibility improvements. New marae are also welcome to apply providing they meet the criteria as outlined below.

To be eligible, marae must be an incorporated society or trust under Te Ture Whenua Act 1993 and forward their application a copy of the previous year’s audited annual accounts.

No late applications will be accepted.

Applications will be considered at the earliest possible time, and marae will be notified by mail as to the outcome of their application.

The marae development grants dates for 2026 is currently under review.

To be eligible for a Marae Development Grant, the marae must meet the following definition - Marae - a meeting place registered as a reserve under the Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993 (The Māori Land Act).
