Can I get a rates rebate?

If you’re eligible, you might qualify for a partial discount on your current rates bill. (Rebates are not available for previous years.)

NPDC administers a rates rebates scheme that is run by the Department of Internal Affairs. The scheme applies to people on benefits or very low incomes.

There are four factors that determine eligibility:

  1. Where you live.

  2. Your total household income before tax.

  3. The amount of rates you pay.

  4. The number of dependents living with you.

You can find out more and check the Government's online rates rebate calculator.

Rebate recipients will receive a letter on how to apply for the next rating year.

If you want to know if you’re eligible, please contact us. The best time to do this is after you’ve received you first rates invoice.

What to bring:

  • Your latest rates invoice.

  • Proof of income.

  • A Summary of Income or a Personal Tax Summary certificate from the Inland Revenue.

  • If you’re self-employed, a copy of your complete set of financial accounts, IR3B or IR10.

  • Details of income including bank interest, share earnings and income from other sources.
