NPDC is inviting residents to share what matters most to them as early planning begins for its next 10-year Plan (2027–2037).

The 10-year Plan, also known as the Long-term Plan, sets out the services, projects, budgets and priorities that will guide the district over the next decade with the survey launched today.

This survey asks people to rank the services they value most, how satisfied they are with current services, where Council should invest, and how to balance service levels, fees, charges and rates.

New Plymouth District’s Mayor Max Brough says community feedback will help shape the choices ahead.

“We’ve put the building blocks in place with our most recent Annual Plan which focussed on efficiency and innovation to reduce impacts on ratepayers while continuing  to prioritise essential services.

“Now is when we have a real opportunity to put a stake in the ground and come up with a plan that will help build towards our vision to make this district resilient today, thriving tomorrow.

Before we put a draft plan together, we want to know what’s most important to our community — what should we protect, what needs to improve, and where we should focus for the future.”

And Mayor Max acknowledges there will be tough decisions that have to be made.

“Investing more in services and improvements comes at a price, while keeping costs down may mean changing services or altering workloads, so we want to know what trade-offs locals are willing to accept and where do you want us to prioritise.

“A very clear message was received through the cost-of-living election last year and it is important to understand your thoughts - I encourage everyone to take time to take the online survey or come along and talk with us at one of the drop-in sessions throughout the district.”

Your feedback will help inform the draft 10-year Plan, which will be released for formal public consultation in early 2027.

At the same time, NPDC’s five Community Boards (Inglewood, Clifton, Puketapu-Bell Block, Waitara and Kaitake) are seeking feedback on their draft Community Board Plans which set out a vision, key issues, and future opportunities for investment and action in their board areas.

NPDC’s five Community Boards are also wanting people’s views on their draft Community Board Plans during the same period to ensure it reflects the needs and aspiration of your community

These plans are developed every three years and set out the boards’ vision, key issues, and future opportunities for investment and action.
