Dog owners are invited to let their four‑legged friends dive and doggy‑paddle one last time before winter, with the return of the Pooches Pool Party at NPDC’s Todd Energy Aquatic Centre.

The popular annual event will take place on Sunday 26 April, from 1pm to 3pm, marking the end of the outdoor swimming season. The outdoor pool closes to human swimmers on Sunday 19 April, before being handed over exclusively to dogs for an afternoon of splashing fun.

Before the pool is drained for winter maintenance, pooches will have free rein to paddle, play and cool off, with games, friendly races and prizes adding to the excitement.

Entry is by gold coin donation, with all proceeds supporting SPCA New Plymouth.

Aquatics Programme Lead Blair Haase says the event has become a much‑loved end‑of‑season tradition.

“This is a great way to finish the outdoor pool season on a positive note,” says Blair.

“It gives the community a chance to enjoy the facility in a different way, support a local charity, and see plenty of happy dogs making the most of the water.”

All dogs attending must be registered with NPDC, and dog owners are encouraged to ensure their pets are well socialised and supervised at all times.
