Heavy rainfall causes Inglewood oxidation ponds overflow

Local News
PUBLISHED: 28 OCT 2025

There has been an overflow from the Inglewood oxidation ponds into the Kurapete Stream as a result of high rainfall.

This discharge, which started today and is ongoing, is within our consent conditions for an emergency overflow. We are monitoring the discharge quality and conducting an investigation.

Warning signs to not swim have been erected at Everett Park entrance and by the main swimming hole and will be in place for 48 hours after the discharge has ceased.

We’re sorry this occurred and we’ve been in touch with iwi and hapū, Taranaki Regional Council, the Taranaki District Health Board and other recreational users.

Warning signs have gone up advising people not to swim or gather kai (for 28 days) in affected areas.

Keep up with the latest information on the Can I Swim page on our website. We are investing $289m over 10 years to 2034 to fix the district’s plumbing.
