An overflow from heavy rainfall in Waitara resulted in a sewage discharge from the Waitara outfall to the Tasman sea on Saturday afternoon (28 June).

The discharge started at 3.30pm and stopped at 3.50pm. We’re sorry this occurred and we’ve been in touch with iwi and hapū, Taranaki Regional Council, the Taranaki District Health Board and other recreational users.

Warning signs have gone up advising people not to swim or gather kai (for 28 days) in affected areas.
