Flooding closes NPDC venues, impacting roads and wastewater network

Updated 5.30pm:

Some of our venues, roads and services have been impacted by the heavy rain across the district today. 

This is an emerging issue, and we will update our website as more information comes to hand.


General

  • Take care if you’re out and about on the roads.
  • Our team are on the ground helping with surface flooding and slips on our New Plymouth district roads.

 Council facilities closed for rest of the day

  • Puke Ariki Library and Museum
  • Huatoki Plaza
  • Brooklands Zoo.

Other

  • Downtown Car Park (Huatoki Stream has flooded the lower level of the car park)

 

ROADS

State Highways (updated 7pm 3 July)

CLOSED:

  • SH3 Tongaporutu - Hills Rd to Pilot Rd - Fallen Trees & slips
  • SH45 Okato - Kaihihi Road to Mid Puniho Road - Flooding.

 

LOCAL ROADS

  • Carrington Road: Extensive surfacing flooding along most of the road, with the worst affected area between Dover Road and Plymouth Road. Still open, but extreme caution.
  • Oxford Road, Ōkāto: Still open, but extreme caution
  • Norfolk Road: Sign installed, still open.
  • Hurford Road: 415-466 Surface flooding 
  • Stockman / Tikorangi Road East: Sign installed, still open
  • Albert Road.  2km of surface flooding but open 
  • Windsor Road, Inglewood - open. 
  • Pentland Place, - open
  • 425 Bedford Rd North - road still open, Signs installed
  • Calvert Rd - road closure being put in place 
  • 216 Paraite Rd
  • Ebrington Rd, Flooding, Road CLOSED 
  • Rifle Range Rd Flooding, Road Closed
  • Bristrol Rd Makara stream bridge, water overflowing the bridge, assessing.
  • Egmont Rd (National Park) – Tree down, blocking one lane, now cleared
  • Lower Durham Rd- Surface flooding report, assessing

SLIPS REPORTED

  • 415 Barrett Road – Slip reportedly covering the entire road. Team enroute to assess. Road still open.
  • Mill Road – slip reported; currently assessing – open.
  • 42 Govett Ave – Slip reported, coned off - open
  • 22 Frankley Rd, Slip reported, coned off, road still open. 

WASTEWATER OVERFLOWS

  • Huatoki (down from the Civic Centre), Glen Avon, Mangati, Te Henui, Inglewood, Ngamotu, Centre City, Northgate Bridge (Te Henui Walkway), Paritutu Bowling Club.
  • Don’t go playing in the stormwater/flooded waters because of the risk of sewage contamination.
