Taranaki Heritage Month kicks off this week with several NPDC venues and locations hosting events and activities throughout the month.
On from 4 October to 6 November, it is organised by Heritage Taranaki and offers a variety of activities aimed at engaging people in the region’s cultural heritage.
Locals and visitors can immerse themselves events that honour the stories, people, and places that shaped Taranaki.

IT’S A WOMEN’S WORLD TOO
10:30am – 11:30am, Monday 7 October
The Teahouse, Pukekura Park
Hear their stories and celebrate the achievements and experiences of some of the outstanding and ordinary women, who have contributed to Taranaki's rich history.

MOVIES OF OLD TARANAKI FROM TARANAKI MEDIA ARCHIVE
2pm (70 mins running time), Monday 7 - Wednesday 9 October
Govett-Brewster Art Gallery Len Lye Centre Cinema
Discover Taranaki's history through rare, archived films, capturing the region's landscapes, culture, and community over the decades.

HISTORICAL TOURS OF PUKEKURA PARK
There are two different tours on offer led by Alan Metcalf sharing his knowledge of the people, events and the history of this much-loved jewel in New Plymouth’s crown.
Tour one:
10am – 12pm, Wednesday 9 October
Meet at Rogan Street Carpark
Reasonable fitness required.
Tour two:
10am – 11:30am, Tuesday 15 October
Gather at the Bellringer Pavilion
Wheelchair friendly. Gentle walking pace.

PUKE ARIKI NEW PLYMOUTH HISTORIC WALKS
Walk one
1:30pm, Wednesday 16 October
Gather in the Puke Ariki museum foyer
Walk two
6pm, Wednesday 16 October
Gather outside Richmond Cottage
Come on a walking tour with the Puke Ariki Historic Walk guides through key points of interest in New Plymouth. The walk is about 3km and includes a small hill climb of moderate incline and takes two hours.
