If you’re looking for something to do with the kids this school holidays, NPDC has you sorted with plenty of options to make the most of the Autumn weather in our sustainable lifestyle capital.

Here are five activities and adventures to check out over the next few weeks. Many activities are free.

Make a splash

Take the plunge in the outdoor pool at Todd Energy Aquatic Centre before it closes on Sunday 28 April until next summer. But don’t worry, there’s still the indoor pools and hydro slides if you feel like a splash!

Artmaking sessions

Get creative at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, which is hosting artmaking sessions in the Todd Energy Learning Centre every weekday throughout the holidays. Every day is different – from playing taonga puoro (traditional Māori musical instruments), making manu (bird) puppets, graffiti art, dioramas and more. An animated adaptation of Judith Kerr’s beloved children’s book The Tiger Who Came To Tea for free every day at 10.30am. Go online for week one and week two programme information.  Free.

Storytime at Brooklands Zoo

It's always a great time at Brooklands Zoo, which is open 9.30am to 4pm daily. On Wednesday 17 April, librarians from Puke Ariki are hosting a storytime session at the zoo at 11.30am. A chance to discover stories of the animal kingdom.  You can always take the Zoo Challenge from our website for a fun adventure for tamariki. Can you answer all the questions? Perhaps you want to take a picnic lunch and eat it in the park after.  Free.

Create your own band poster

Enjoy the sights and sounds of our Kount Five Plus Two exhibition at Puke Ariki Museum on Tuesday 16 April and join us to Hdesign a band poster or album artwork! Drop in any time between 10am–midday. Free.

Ribbon dance beneath Len Lye’s Sky Snakes

Whether you’re young, or young at heart, feel the patterns and energy of Len Lye’s kinetic sculpture Sky Snake on Saturday 13 April between 11am – 4pm. Ribbons provided. If you can’t make this session, this is a regular programme between Saturday 13 April – Sunday 17 November 2024. More details on the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery website. Free.
