  • Like pool operators across the country, we’re struggling to recruit qualified lifeguards.
  • Lifeguards are specially trained to deal with emergencies in the water, first aid and water quality.
  • Safety comes first so we’re looking at reducing opening hours at our district pools and Todd Energy Aquatic Centre.
  • It’s really disappointing for swimmers and we’re sorry for the inconvenience.
  • We’re still open for schools so our tamariki can learn to be safe in the water.
  • We’ll keep looking for qualified lifeguards to help keep our pools open.
  • Please check the NPDC website for the latest times or call us on 06-759 6060.
  • The new hours are:
    • Fitzroy: Closed for the season 6pm Friday 10 February.
    • Inglewood: No casual swimming from 18 February. Open only for school groups and swim club.
    • Ōkato: No casual swimming and closed weekends and public holidays from 18 February. Schools, swim clubs and lane swimming  (6—9am, midday—1pm) only from Monday to Friday.
    • Waitara: No casual swimming and closed weekends and public holidays from 18 February. Schools, swim clubs and lane swimming (6—9am, midday—1pm)  only from Monday to Friday.
    • Todd Energy Aquatic Centre: from 18 February, weekend and public holidays 8am–5pm, Monday to Friday 5.30am–7.30pm.
