Wet-wipes and rags cause overflow

An overflow from the New Plymouth Wastewater Treatment Plant has occurred early this morning.

The spill was caused by a blockage of wet-wipes and rags. It was detected at 4am and stopped at 6.45am.

While it’s unlikely that the overflow reached a nearby creek, warning signs against swimming and food collection have been erected as a precaution – please see NPDC’s Can I Swim Webpage for more details.

We’re sorry this has occurred and as with all overflows, we’ve been in touch with iwi and hapū, Taranaki Regional Council, the Taranaki District Health Board and recreational users.
