Rubbish service back to normal as Covid lockdown eases in Level 3

Local News
PUBLISHED: 30 AUG 2021

The rubbish collection will return to normal when Taranaki goes into Covid Alert Level 3 tomorrow but most other NPDC services are still restricted.

Level 3 is good news for some local businesses but we’re not out of the woods yet and our libraries, pools, playgrounds, customer centres and the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery and Puke Ariki and other public venues will remain closed, says NPDC External Relations Manager Jacqueline Baker.

“Taranaki’s been lucky so far but we have to remember Delta is a turbocharged version of Covid. Our staff are busy on the frontline keeping the water pumping, collecting rubbish bins and fixing the roads while sticking to the safety rules.  We’re offering virtual programmes at Puke Ariki, the art gallery and our call centre is open to answer your call. We’ll restart everything else as it becomes safe to do so,” she says.

From Wednesday, glass bins will be collected fortnightly and food scraps bins weekly, while we keep collecting the red and yellow-top wheelie bins on the usual schedule in Level 3.

NPDC staff are working from home where possible so that businesses can hit the ground running at Alert Level 2 but other services building inspections and a limited home delivery service from Puke Ariki Library will return in Level 3.
