Swimming alert at Fitzroy Beach

Please don’t swim or gather food at Fitzroy Beach.

Testing of the water at the beach by Taranaki Regional Council on 9 December returned elevated levels of the potentially-harmful bacteria.

We’re sorry this will inconvenience people hoping to spend the weekend at Fitzroy Beach.

Check our Can I Swim page for information on other beaches.

Banners and flags

To enquire about booking a flag or banner site, and for more information around flag specifications, please email your contact details, an outline of the event, preferred display locations and a date range for the display to enquiries@npdc.govt.nz.

The following types of flags and banners may be displayed on the Council’s display tracks:

  • Seasonal messages.
  • Community messages.
  • Advertising for festivals or events open to the general public.
  • Promotions of civic pride, identity, awareness or district promotional campaigns.

The following types of flags and banners cannot be displayed on the Council’s display tracks:

  • Adverts for commercial goods or services, or commercial entities.
  • Promotions of political parties or a political message.
  • Promotions of social campaigns not associated with civic pride or civic awareness.

Street flag and banner design

The design and content of any proposed flag or banner must be reviewed by NPDC before approval can be granted if the application is:

  • From a person or organisation who has not applied for the display of flags or banners before.
  • For a new event.
  • For a new design for an existing event. (If a previously approved design is changed, the new design requires new approval from NPDC.)

Flags and banners must not contain sponsors' names or logos unless the sponsor appears as part of the event name, e.g. TSB Festival of Lights.

Flags and banners may be installed no earlier than four weeks before the event starts and will be removed no later than seven days after the event ends.

From a week prior to the Santa Parade (the first weekend in December) to approximately 7 January each year, the display tracks will be used for seasonal banners relating to the Christmas period and will not be available for other flags and banners.

Priority will also be given to displaying Council flags and banners to celebrate Matariki, Waitangi Day, Pride Week and Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, and to commemorate Anzac Day.
