What happens when words start to move?

This summer, our Learning Studio hosts Soft Stomp, Dizzy Roll!, a project by Gadigal-based (Sydney, Australia) artist Nadia Odlum.

Over several weeks, visitors of all ages are invited to explore the playful intersections of language, text, and movement.

Step inside to discover magnetic words waiting to be rearranged, prompts that spark new gestures, and a growing collection of colourful cards created by other tamariki, rangatahi and pakeke.

Create silly and surprising ways to move through your own word combinations then mix, match, and act them out.

Will you skip mysteriously, drift heavily, or teleport dramatically?

As the installation evolves through your participation, the studio transforms into a living choreography — part workshop, part library, part stage.

Soft Stomp, Dizzy Roll! invites language to take on new life through movement, curiosity, and shared play.

About the Summer Studio

Each summer, the Gallery’s Learning Studio transforms into a free creative drop-in zone that encourages intergenerational curiosity, experimentation, play, and rest. Offering space to participate or be inspired by others, the Summer Studio is a gift to our community, an open invitation to make, think, and imagine together.
