A blockage of fat and rags has caused a sewage overflow from Shaldon Place, New Plymouth into the Mangaotuku Stream this morning.
The overflow started earlier this morning and was stopped about 10am. Our team is on-site cleaning and sanitising the site.
Warning signs against swimming for 48 hours and collecting kai for 28 days have been erected at affected water bodies.
We’re sorry this has occurred, and we’ve notified iwi and hapū, Taranaki Regional Council, Health New Zealand Taranaki, and other recreational groups. Keep up with the latest information on the Can I Swim page of our website.
We are investing $289m over 10 years to fix the district's plumbing.
