NPDC has appointed Anthony Wilson as Chair of the Wai Hononga Water Services Ltd Board, following the resignation of the previous Chairperson Michael Sage in May.

Anthony brings extensive governance, infrastructure, and water sector experience to the role, with a career spanning almost five decades in the management, operation and delivery of major infrastructure programmes. He is widely recognised as one of New Zealand's leading voices on water sector reform and regulation.

New Plymouth District’s Mayor Max Brough said Mr Wilson's appointment comes at a pivotal time for the organisation as it continues to build a strong foundation for the delivery of safe, reliable and sustainable water services to communities across the region.

“Anthony brings a rare combination of governance expertise, regulatory knowledge and practical operational experience. His understanding of water utilities and customer expectations will be invaluable as Wai Hononga Water Services Ltd continues its establishment journey.”

His governance experience includes serving as an Establishment Board Member for New Zealand’s Taumata Arowai – The Water Services Authority 2021 - 2025, as well as being a board member and Chairperson for Water New Zealand during 1996-2000, and as Engineering New Zealand during 2006-2011. He also served as one of three members of the Havelock North Drinking Water Inquiry and has been an expert adviser to the Auditor-General on specialist water sector investigations.

The other members of the board are:

  • Onno Mulder
  • Sara Brownlie
  • Kim Skelton
  • Joshua Hitchcock.
