The cause of a short sewage overflow into the Waitaha Stream is being investigated.

The discharge occurred on Hudson Road, Bell Block and started at 12.30pm today and was stopped at 3.15pm. Our team has responded and is on-site clearing and sanitising the site.

Warning signs against swimming for 48 hours and collecting kai for 28 days have been erected at various locations.

We’re sorry this has occurred, and we’ve notified iwi and hapū, Taranaki Regional Council, Health New Zealand Taranaki, and other recreational groups. Keep up with the latest information on the Can I Swim page of our website.

We are investing $289m over 10 years to fix the district's plumbing.
