Power fault at NPDC pump station causes sewer overflow

News
PUBLISHED: 23 SEPT 2024

A power fault at NPDC’s Te Henui Pump Station during the thunderstorm on Sunday caused a sewer overflow into the Tasman Sea via the Eliot Street outfall.

The discharge started on Sunday 22 September at 3.05pm with NPDC officers able to get the pump station back in action quickly, containing the overflow by 3.25pm.

Warning signs against swimming and collecting kai have been erected at various locations.

We’re sorry this has occurred, and we’ve been in touch with iwi and hapū, Taranaki Regional Council, the Taranaki District Health Board and other recreational users.
