Swimming alert at Fitzroy Beach

Please don’t swim or gather food at Fitzroy Beach.

Testing of the water at the beach by Taranaki Regional Council on 9 December returned elevated levels of the potentially-harmful bacteria.

We’re sorry this will inconvenience people hoping to spend the weekend at Fitzroy Beach.

Check our Can I Swim page for information on other beaches.

Accidental works damage causes wastewater leak

News
PUBLISHED: 30 MAR 2022
  • A contractor accidentally damaged a sewage pipe in Konini Street, Inglewood, resulting in a wastewater leak identified yesterday afternoon.
  • We quickly made repairs and the leak stopped after three hours, but some wastewater flowed into a tributary of the Waiongana Stream.
  • We’re sorry this has happened and we’ve been in touch with iwi and hapū, Taranaki Regional Council, the Taranaki District Health Board and other recreational users.
  • Warning signage has gone up advising people not to swim (for two days) or gather kai (for 28 days) in the affected areas.
  • Keep up with the latest information on the Can I Swim page on our website.
  • We are investing $248m over 10 years to fix the district’s plumbing.
