Discharge from Waste Water Treatment Plant

News Public Notice
PUBLISHED: 23 APR 2021

A leak from our potable water line at the Waste Water Treatment Plant has run over ground, potentially picking up contaminants, and trickled into a stormwater line that discharges to a tributary of the Waiwhakaiho River.

The issue has been identified and fixed and we apologise if anyone has been affected.

We have alerted the TRC and the TDHB as regulators, and been in touch with iwi, hapū and other recreational groups.

As a precaution, we’ve put up signs warning people not to swim, let their dogs swim or to gather kai near the Waiwhakaiho River mouth.

Keep up to date with the latest information on the Can I Swim page on our website.
