Mangorei Road safety improvements

This work will improve the safety of all road users on the section of Mangorei Road between Northgate and Rimu Street.

During the four months from Tuesday 4 July, NPDC will build:

  • A raised pedestrian/cycle crossing that is managed by traffic lights (similar to the one installed on Rimu Street, Inglewood).
  • A widened footpath between the raised crossing and the Northgate intersection to make it into shared pedestrian/cycle areas.

Construction of the widened footpaths take place from 7am to 5pm Mondays to Saturdays. Vehicle access to properties will be maintained at all times.

Road closure

Construction of the raised platform will take place from 23 September to 6 October, if not completed sooner. Workers will be on-site from 7am-1am for the first five days, then 7am-5pm for the remainder of the work.

For the safety of road workers and to get the work done in a shorter period of time, Mangorei Road between Northgate and Rimu Street will be closed to through-traffic 24/7 for up to 10 days during the term three school holidays (23 September to 6 October), while the new pedestrian crossing is built. Note: this road may reopen sooner than scheduled.

Vehicle access to residents’ properties within this area will be maintained during the closure.

Diversions will be in place on Waiwaka Terrace and Paynters Avenue via Rimu Street, and a temporary bus stop and pedestrian crossing will be created further up the road.

Drivers will need to plan their travel route during the closure period.
