The District Plan includes objectives, policies and rules that manage the adverse effects of activities on the environment with a focus on land use and subdivision activities.

Councils are required to prepare a District Plan under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA). The District Plan includes objectives, policies and rules that manage the adverse effects of activities on the environment with a focus on land use and subdivision activities.

There are currently two District Plans to consider in the New Plymouth District: the Operative District Plan 2005 and the Part Operative District Plan 2025.

Almost all provisions in the Part Operative District Plan 2025 can be treated as operative unless they are subject to an appeal. Where a provision is under appeal, please refer to the corresponding provision in the Operative District Plan 2005.
