Te Korowai o Tāne Grants for native plants

The Council's Te Korowai o Tāne grants for plants support community and not-for-profit groups to plant native species on their own urban properties.

Applicants are encouraged to reach out to council to explore opportunities for us to assist with your planting project. 

  •      Annual Fund: $30,000
  • Maximum Grant: $5,000 (excl. GST) per group
  • Open year-round, for plantings ideally April to August

Eligible groups include schools, sports clubs, kōhanga reo, kindergartens, play centres, marae, and other community groups with land to plant.

Grant Conditions:

  • Funding is for native plants only (from NPDC-approved nurseries), 
  • A simple planting and maintenance plan is required
  • Planting must be on the applicant’s own urban property
  • Before and after photos must be submitted
  • Plantings must be intended to last in perpetuity
  • Only one application per property within three years
