The Junction is a key part of our goal of becoming a Zero Waste region. Operated by WISE Charitable Trust and Sustainable Taranaki, The Junction is a community facility where we’re taking charge of our Zero Waste future by changing attitudes around waste minimisation and reuse. We do this through fun, hands-on education programmes that encourage reduction of waste through reuse and recycling as well as encouraging the donation of preloved goods for resale.

Stage one of The Junction has opened with a drop-off area for recyclables and reusables, a shop and an education space, as well as the large artwork Pine Forest by Rose Petterson, which is made from off-cuts from building sites.

Stage two could include a workshop, a waste-to-art area and a site for businesses to set up activities. Development of stage two will depend on funding and public demand.

Book a tour of The Junction

We have a wonderful education space and our tours are designed to accommodate a range of ages and up to 38 people.

Tours take place in the education space which looks down onto the facility through a huge 6m viewing window. They are an hour and a half in length and have been tailored to suit young children (3+), reading age students, and adults from across the community. Tours are $5 per person (which you get back as a voucher to spend at The Junction shop).

Refillable cleaning products

Will and Able bulk refillable products are sold at The Junction. Bring your own containers and fill up on eco-dish liquid, eco-hand soap, eco-laundry liquid, eco-multi-purpose cleaner and eco-toilet cleaner.

E-waste recycling depot

Fixing and recycling our broken electronics is much better for the environment than putting them in the landfill. We correctly dispose of all e-waste, recycling all reusable material.

There is a fee for this service. To find out more, and for information about commercial e-waste disposal, please see the link below.
