Commercial waste collection

We provide free support to help businesses reduce waste. However commercial premises are not rated for recycling and rubbish collection and so do not receive an NPDC-managed waste service. Please contact a private collector to arrange the collection of your recycling, compostables and landfill waste. A list of some commercial providers for recycling and compostables is available below.

Reusable items

Many usable items such as desks, filing cabinets, chairs and construction leftovers are accepted at The Junction. For more information see The Junction. Or see the list of commercial reuse and recycling options.

Recycling

Free recycling for cardboard, paper, plastics 1, 2 and 5, tins, cans and colour sorted glass is available at The Junction on Colson Road, and any NPDC transfer station. Items must be separated by type, and placed loose by hand into collection bins. On-site collections for these and other materials can also be arranged with commercial waste collectors.

E-waste 

The Junction on Colson Road, New Plymouth correctly disposes of all e-waste, recycling all reusable material.

Miscellaneous items 

Items such as metals, tyres, plastic wrap, cooking oil, batteries and appliances can be recycled by commercial or community recyclers. Check out our list of commercial reuse and recycling options and the Zero Waste Taranaki A - Z Zero Waste Directory.

Organic waste

Collection of food scraps, paper towels, compostable cups and packaging, coffee grounds and garden and landscaping waste can be arranged through a commercial waste collector.

Hazardous waste 

Companies are required to contract a private waste company to collect and dispose of their hazardous waste. Commercial volumes of hazardous waste may be taken to the New Plymouth Transfer Station for disposal. Charges apply. 

Asbestos

Asbestos bags can be purchased from the Civic Centre (Liardet Street, New Plymouth). See our fees and charges for up to date pricing. The price of the bag does not cover disposal costs. Disposal will need to be arranged through a private contractor.
