Meaning of our name

Wai refers to water, the core element of the organisation's purpose and the life source that flows from the maunga, across the ring plain, through communities, and back to the sea.

Hononga means to join or connect.

Together, Wai Hononga expresses water as a connector of people, places, and generations.

Water sustains our communities, supports the environment, and connects us to one another. The name reflects the vital role water plays in everyday life and recognises the responsibility we share to care for this essential resource for current and future generations.
