What the management team is responsible for

Our management team oversees the core operational and organisational functions that keep water services running safely and efficiently. Their responsibilities cover:

1. Drinking water safety

Under Water Services Regulations, employees and officers of a water supplier have a legal duty to ensure the organisation supplies safe drinking water, meets drinking water standards, monitors risks, keeps proper records, and acts immediately if anything threatens water safety.
Management ensures:

  • Drinking Water Safety Plans are implemented
  • Sampling and monitoring follow the Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules
  • Treatment plants consistently meet national standards
  • Staff exercise due diligence to prevent contamination events

These obligations are non‑negotiable and form the foundation of daily operations.

2. Compliance with Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules

Taumata Arowai’s Quality Assurance Rules set specific requirements for monitoring, reporting, treatment barriers, and how data is collected, verified, and submitted. Management must maintain systems that ensure these rules are followed across the entire water supply chain.

3. Wastewater operations & environmental performance

Management also oversees wastewater operations — from pump stations to treatment plants and overflow response.
Taumata Arowai has established national wastewater environmental performance standards, setting expectations around monitoring, reporting, reducing overflows, and improving long‑term environmental outcomes. Management ensures operational plans comply with these standards and any regional consent conditions.

4. Customer service & frontline response

Customer‑facing teams help people report faults, understand their bills, learn how to check for leaks, manage water meters, and access support services.

Management ensures that:

  • 24/7 fault response teams are available
  • Urgent issues are escalated and resolved following established service levels
  • Customers receive clear, timely information during outages
  • Online self‑service tools remain easy to use

5. Network operations & maintenance

The management team oversees the people who maintain water and wastewater pipes, reservoirs, valves, pumps, and monitoring systems. This includes:

  • Preventive and reactive maintenance
  • Network inspections
  • Leak detection coordination
  • Capital works delivery
  • Asset condition assessments

These functions directly support the outcomes expected under Local Water Done Well — resilience, efficiency, and long‑term sustainability of water infrastructure.
