Water meters are being installed across New Plymouth District to help households better understand their water use, identify leaks, and support future planning for water services.
Water meters have already helped identify significant leaks across the district, reducing water loss and helping avoid unnecessary infrastructure costs.
New Plymouth District Council (NPDC) is preparing a water billing and mock billing programme.
Mock bills are planned from October 2026 for a 12-month period. They are provided for information only and are designed to help households understand their water use and identify possible leaks before any future move to usage-based charging.
Dates and details are subject to confirmation.
Until Wai Hononga begins operating on 1 July 2027, NPDC remains responsible for water meters, mock billing, and related customer enquiries.
