Governance and Leadership

The Board 

Wai Hononga is governed by a Board of Directors appointed to bring a mix of governance, financial, engineering, environmental, and public sector expertise. The Board's role is to: 

  • Setting Wai Hononga's strategic direction  

  • Overseeing organisational performance and risk  

  • Supporting safe, reliable, and sustainable water services  

  • Ensuring financial responsibility and long-term planning  

  • Maintaining transparency and accountability 

The Board is supported by specialist committees, including Audit & Risk and Health, Safety & Environment. It is also guided by a Statement of Expectations, which sets out our priorities, performance measures, and commitments to the community. 

Executive Leadership Team 

Wai Hononga's leadership team is currently being established ahead of operations commencing on 1 July 2027. The Chief Executive is responsible for the day-to-day management of the organisation and leading its transition to full operations. 

Accountability 

Wai Hononga is publicly owned and accountable to the communities it serves. We operate within New Zealand's water services regulatory framework and are committed to responsible management, transparent reporting, and long-term investment in water infrastructure.
