Future-proofing our district

This is all about making sure we are looking after our infrastructure now to ensure it remains fit for purpose.

We have several key issues we are keen to get your feedback on including:

  • Should we double our investment in local roads, bridges and footpaths from $155m to $315m to look after what we’ve got?
  • Given more frequent wild weather, should we boost our Disaster Recovery Reserve by $500,000 each year?

Other ways we are proposing to future-proof our district:

  • Increasing funding to Venture Taranaki to continue its work to showcase Taranaki as a great place to visit, invest and do business.
  • Upgrading flood protection infrastructure so they meet new regulatory standards
  • Continuing to improve our tracks and trails, including completing the Coastal Walkway extension from Bell Block to Waitara.
  • Transport planning by starting discussions with Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency on a ring road to the Port, bypasses to get big rigs out of other town centres and a second crossing of the Waiwhakaiho River.

Pot hole.
