I'm standing for North Ward Councillor to be a strong, steady voice for our communities from Waitara to Urenui and across the coast and rural heartland. I've served on the Waitara Community Board, where I've consistently stood up for local voices to be heard, respected, and reflected in real decisions.
Our ward is proud, diverse, and deeply connected. I want to see Council deliver the basics well, listen carefully, and back the priorities that matter most.
I'm committed to values-based leadership: showing up, listening with purpose, and speaking up when it counts. If elected, I'll keep pushing for practical, grounded outcomes that reflect the strength and character of the North Ward.
Yes
What?
We need to prioritise essential services, cut waste, and seek smarter delivery. But it must stay a great place to live—safe, sustainable, and connected. Fiscal discipline with a balanced focus on community wellbeing
Yes
What?
NPDC should back smart, future-focused industries that create local jobs. Support innovation, small business, and regional strengths, while making it easier to grow here without overburdening ratepayers.
Yes
Why?
NPDC is doing good work here, especially in partnering with local providers. I feel it is our role to keep pressure on the central government so that we don’t become the sole provider of solutions.
Yes
Why?
A locally owned, Taranaki-wide CCO ensures better planning and funding for future maintenance and upgrades, protecting ratepayers from unexpected costs while delivering reliable, high-quality water services long term.
Yes
Why?
NPDC must do more to prepare for climate impacts, strengthen infrastructure, support community resilience, and promote sustainable practices while balancing costs and protecting our environment for future generations.
No
Why?
The Hub is essential, but approving extra funding now was wrong—especially as most councillors backed this plus $8m for Bellringer Pavilion, yet now discuss cuts to the Waitara Walkway Extension. Budgets shouldn’t grow at North Ward’s expense.
No
Why?
The Devon St West cycleway raised concerns about parking, safety, consultation, and low community support. I back active transport, but future projects must show clear benefits and balance them with residents’ and businesses’ needs.
Keep
Why?
I support the Māori Wards, but bear in mind this is going to be decided by referendum, not by those standing for council. Inevitably, this will be decided by those who vote in the referendum.
NPDC should invest wisely in venues, streamline approvals, and offer targeted incentives for winter events. A balanced calendar helps local businesses thrive year-round while ensuring ratepayer money is spent responsibly.
I will advocate to upgrade North Ward roads, stormwater, and water to support growth and fix Waitara’s legacy issues. I’ll push for better rural broadband, safer roads, and stronger support for farms and small communities from Tongaporutu to Waitara.
