Peter Marra is running for Mayor of New Plymouth in 2025.
My vision is to revitalise the CBD with pilot trial of free parking; Listen to people about the danger of concrete blocks on cycle ways and have them removed; To engage with the eco tourism and fishing sector who oppose seabed mining;
To listen to the Parihaka and the Palestinian community who would like to see the divestment of unethical investments by the NPDC in major Israeli banks in illegal settlements on Palestinian land; To engage with Maori wards and iwi about achieving justice through the return of confiscated land by the NPDC that could lead to more investment in social and disability housing.
I have a Master degree in Sustainable Development. Community focused gained as registered Acupuncturist. I am pro small business and eco tourism having worked in the tourism sector in Munich Germany. Experience in community development.
Yes
What?
I would rethink the installment of water meters to apartments and cross lease properties. There is a risk of being overcharged for water rates as the NPDC is only installing one water meter per block of flats.

What?
NPDC needs to promote New Plymouth as a tourist destination and a sustainable innovation hub to create more jobs; encourage JetStar to connect flights from Australia to New Plymouth via Hamilton to bring in more tourists. Free parking in the CBD.
No
Why?
There are women giving birth living in cars and there is also a large increase in rough sleepers. I would meet with Women's Refuge, the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, TSB & the iwi group building affordable housing to create an action plan.

Why?
But it must be inclusive and include Iwi. NPDC should offer grants and interest free loans to encourage people to install water tanks and grey water systems to prepare for droughts.
Yes
Why?
We need more community gardens. If there is a major earthquake or climate related event there would only be 3 weeks of food supplies in supermarkets. NPDC must have a plan for tsunamis and rising sea levels.
Yes
Why?
It will bring more sporting events to New Plymouth .Youth and many sports clubs will benifit.

Why?
As a cyclist I would like to see more cycleways but not with dangerous concrete blocks like on Devon Street. The car of doctor friend of mine was damaged by them as she was going to an emergency at Taranaki Base Hospital.
Keep
Why?
Maori are 20 percent of the population and need to be represented at meetings. The Maori economy is the fastest growing the region and iwi housing initiatives key to solving the housing crisis. Their voice needs to be heard for the benifit of the wider community.
Link up with iwi, all hotels, motels, camping grounds and others to establish a baseline for bed availability. By creating a booking portal and promo of events . By encouraging JetStar to connect flights from Oz to New Plymouth to bring in tourists
Housing the homeless/families by forming an action plan with Women's Refuge, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity and iwi. Returning land taken from iwi and hapu. Revitalization of the CBD by offering free parking to attract tourists and investments
