My name is Greg Mackay. I am Taranaki born and bred and, as a concerned citizen, I am offering my services, as Mayor and Councillor for the district.
I am an Engineer by trade and also have experience as a business owner.
There are several major issues facing this election. The main one I would highlight is our Outrageous Debt, It is time our Council revert their attention to our core services and to responsibly reduce spending and expensive projects which benefit the few.
I believe Council needs to retain ownership and management of our regional infrastructure and assets and to have our communities involved in a similar vision for sustainable governance.
I hope that you will support me to bring the New Plymouth District forward into a positive position for the future and I look forward to working for you with Honesty, Integrity and Accountability.
Thanks
Greg Mackay
What?
I would propose a review of how processes are fulfilled and push for more efficient spending of money to achieve the same or a better outcome.
What?
I believe we need to introduce business such as a Power & Gas Co-op. This could then go national for us. This would stimulate the local economy and promote job opportunities while expanding the business and housing presence.
No
Why?
As well as establishing an effective housing plan, we need to foster a stronger sense of unity within our communities that together can help address the issue of homelessness.
No
Why?
NO. Water and wastewater needs to be kept in-house and managed efficiently.
Yes
Why?
Yes. We need to make efforts to re-wild areas of land with little developmental value. This means planting trees and native plants to promote nature's self-regulation as well as letting New Zealand's natural beauty prevail.
Why?
I believe it should have been voted on by the communities and not decided entirely by the Mayor and Councillors.
No
Why?
I believe the cost and maintenance is unduly cumbersome on spending and developmental efforts as well as introducing health and safety risks (Tim Tams). Varying road widths also make it difficult to implement on a large scale.
Why?
I am neutral to Māori Wards. I have a Māori side to my family and I love that Māori side. Letting you know, that my great Auntie was a Ratahi.
I believe we need to make ourselves more known to points of attraction as a venue. We have great facilities that we let slip under the radar.
Promoting community influence in the decision-making process as opposed to letting things be decided entirely by council. Ensure that projects are fulfilled. E.g: Waitara river mouth rock breakwater and replace the rocks removed from the beach.
