Having spent over 30 years living in New Plymouth, I understand the values and aspirations of our community.
My 20+ years at WITT - particularly the past 11 as Career Advisor - have given me strong insight into local education, employment, and future needs of our district. I bring a proven ability to think critically and make evidence-based decisions, along with experience in research, public speaking, and working with people from diverse backgrounds.
I'm passionate supporter of the arts, serving as Regional Representative for the NZ Choral Federation and volunteering with New Plymouth Operatic Society and City Sounds Choir. I believe in sustainability - environmental, social and financial - for the well-being of today's residents and future generations.
My goal is to help shape New Plymouth into a vibrant, welcoming place to live and work, while recognising that thoughtful growth is key to maintaining our financial strength and community vitality.
No
What?
Overall, I think the balance of cost, on one hand, and the development of a vibrant community on the other is managed well.
Yes
What?
Yes. Venture Taranaki is doing great work in this area. Green energy research is going well. Chance to grow eco-tourism, especially considering the impact of climate change on this region.
Yes
Why?
Strong, Taranaki-specific research has been carried out. Now it’s time for action. I support the establishment of Te Whare o Tapatahi a Taranaki.
Yes
Why?
This is where we can focus on sustainability and quality rather than profits.
Yes
Why?
First we need to understand the effects of climate change. Greater awareness of potential flood areas for zoning purposes and update building codes in terms of drainage and external materials.
Yes
Why?
I fully support the effective use of under-utilised land for a diverse range of activities. This is a long term development so $50m is not a one-off payment.
Yes
Why?
Yes. We need to encourage safe travel through the city that is not reliant on motor vehicles. However, the concrete monstrosities (Tim Tams) are not fit for purpose.
Keep
Why?
I fully support a Māori Ward.
Tūparikino Sports Hub would be a great drawcard for national sports tournaments. Also major triathlons/Round the Mountain/IronMan races could be developed here. Keep the Matariki Winter Festival.
