Okoki Road culvert replacement

In the second half of 2022 a culvert on Okoki Road deteriorated just west of the Kaka Road intersection, causing the road to slump. NPDC will fix the damage by craning into place a replacement 3mx3m box culvert and then reinstating the road. This will involve a 200-tonne crane and two 25T diggers.

Works period: from Tuesday 14 March for up to six weeks (weather permitting)

Temporary road closure

No traffic will be able to get past the worksite during the project so the road will be closed to all traffic, 24/7, for up to six weeks (weather permitting) from Tuesday 14 March.

During this time, residents who live east of the worksite will be able to reach SH3 via Kaka and Uruti roads.

School bus pick-up

A staging area at either end of the worksite will enable school buses to pick up and drop off students. A temporary crossing will be set up for pedestrian access, which will be open for use only during school bus pick-up/drop-off times. Staff on-site will guide children safely through the pedestrian access.

Emergency services

Due to the scale of the excavation, emergency services will also use the alternative route of Uruti and Kaka roads.
